The story of Sistas The Musical revolves around a black family when they lose their matriarch. It center on five black women with three shown as sisters, fourth one is the daughter of one of them and the fifth is a white sister-in-law. When tragedy hits the family and the five women come across the possessions left by the matriarch it forces them to take a trip down the memory lane.
The musical starts when the five gather in their late grandmother's attic and are preparing for her funeral. They have to prepare a song for the memorial and as they decide on it they take the audience all the way from Black Blues singers to the singers of modern times. Some of the popular numbers that are played portray the joys and struggles and joys of African American women.
Themes of companionship, love and bonding have been beautifully tackled in the musical. Dorothy Marcic, a professor at Columbia University is the playwright of the musical.
