A Work of Genius

Come From Away is a work of art and anyone who has seen this breathtakingly awesome musical would agree to that fact. It is the brainchild of the husband-wife duo of Irene Sankoff and David Hein who not only composed the score of the musical but also wrote the lyrics and authored the book.

This musical is based on true events. It is set in weeks following the September 11 attacks and tells the story when 38 planes were given the order to land in the small town of Gander which is located in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Initially, nerves ran high and the cultures clashed but eventually, the situation got under control leading to form many enduring friendships.

Although, Come From Away debuted in 2013 but it wasn't until 2017 that the musical made its Broadway premier. It was staged at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on March 12^th. It turned out to be a massive hit both critically and at the box office. In October of 2018, the show became the longest-running Canadian musical in the history of Broadway, surpassing The Drowsy Chaperone which ran for 674 performances. This production of the show won three Drama Desk Awards including one for, 'Outstanding Musical.'
