  • Wes Unseld has played the most amount of minutes for the Wizards with 35,832.
  • Elvin Hayes has scored the highest number of field goals for the Wizards with 6,251 to his name.
  • The Washington Wizards and the Washington Mystics have the same owners.
  • Wes Unseld has played 984 games to date, the highest by any other Wizards player in history.
  • Wizards were created in 1961 as the Chicago Packers and were the first expansion team in NBA history.

The team was founded in 1961 as Chicago Packers but the franchise shifted to Baltimore Maryland in 1963 and renamed Baltimore Bullets. The franchise again moved this time to Washington and the name was changed to Washington Bullets from 1974 to 1997 and the team was finally renamed by owner Abe Pollin as Washington Wizards in 1997, this name was selected through a contest and finalized from a list of names like Dragons, Stallions, Express and Wizards. Washington Wizards have a famous thrilling rivalry with the Cleveland Cavaliers since 2006 and to date both teams have faced each other 36 times. The Wizards are headquartered in Washington DC and currently they play all their home matches at the very spacious Verizon Center.

The Washington Wizards or Bullets early times were good as they were in immaculate form, they won Divisional titles continuously in 1969-71-72-73-74-75. In 1973 the Bullets were off to the NBA playoffs but lost in the first round to the New York Knicks. In 1975 they won their 2nd Conference title by beating the very experienced Boston Celtics and raced to the NBA finals, looking at their attacking game everyone expected the Bullets to win their 1st ever NBA championship but they were surprisingly defeated by Golden State Warriors. In 1978 Washington Bullets shined again by winning the Conference title and made history by storming to the NBA finals beating the Seattle SuperSonics and winning their 1st and only NBA Championship. In 1979 they again stood 1st in the Division and won yet another Conference title beating this time the San Antonio Spurs and flew to the NBA finals again facing the SuperSonics but lost in a nail biting match, Bullets hold this unique record of being the only team that played 4 times in the NBA finals during the 70’s decade.

The Washington Bullets in the start of 80’s went into a bad patch as the team couldn’t live up to the mark they were famous for, star players like Wes Unseld retired and Elvin Hayes was exchanged to the Houston Rockets. The Bullets acquired fine players like Muggsy Bogues and Manute Bol but this couldn’t improve things much as the team continued to play a very mediocre game and failed to impress the sepectators, the Bullets qualified for the NBA playoffs in 1988 but lost in the first round to Detroit Pistons and afterwards fans waited for 9 years to see them play again in the NBA playoffs. During the decade of 90’s team was finally named Washington Wizards , things didn’t improve much till early 2000 despite that fact that the Wizards had player like Chris Webber, Otis Thorpe, Mitch Richmond and Richard Hamilton. In 2001 change came when legendary player Michael Jordon joined the Wizards as team president and then came out of retirement to play for them, the Wizards season end was much better with more wins thanks to Jordon but he had to take rest due to injury. Jordon joined back in 2003-04 season and again scored good and improved Wizards point position.

In 2004, Jordon was fired due to differences and since then the Washington Wizards have under went a major rebuilding process but they still have to won a Divisional or Conference title, just recently in 2010 the Wizards have acquired 3 finest star players John Wall (team captain), Kevin Seraphin and Kirk Hinrich, some other note able players on the roster are Cartier Martin, Hamady Diaye, Al Thronton and Jianlian Yi. Washington Wizards are all set to stage a stunning comeback and their upcoming match will definitely be full of excitement so book your Washington Wizards tickets only form us to have a riveting experience!
