Pittsburgh Steelers: A Proud Tradition
The Pittsburgh Steelers came into existence in 1933 and are the oldest franchise in the American Football Conference (AFC) of the NFL. Along with the New England Patriots, they are also the most successful NFL side ever with 6 Super Bowl titles so far. The Heinz Field is the current home arena of the Steelers.
In stark contrast to being a team that flattered to deceive more often than not, the Steelers have really come into their own since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. Prior to that, they were the oldest franchise not to win a league championship. The post-merger era has brought about a complete change of fortunes for them.
To date, the Steelers have hosted 11 conference championship games. This is more than any other team in the league. They are also second (along with the Dallas Cowboys and the Denver Broncos) on the list of all-time Super Bowl appearances, having made it to the grand showdown on 8 occasions. Only the Patriots have played in more Super Bowls.
The Steelers boast a very large fan base around the country that is popularly known as Steeler Nation. The Heinz Field has been the Steelers’ home since 2001. It took the place of the old Three Rivers Stadium where the side from the Steel City played for more than 3 decades. Get your Pittsburgh Steelers tickets now to enjoy some great football action at the Heinz Field.
The Major Rivalries
The Steelers have major rivalries with the Cleveland Browns, the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals. The Browns have been divisional rivals for the Steelers ever since the two teams faced off against one another back in 1950. Recent exchanges between them have been dominated by the Steelers. This includes a brilliant run from 2003 to 2009 where the Steelers came out on top in 12 consecutive fixtures.
Another intense divisional rivalry for the Steelers involves the Baltimore Ravens. The two sides have traded blows over the years and decades but the Steelers have the edge with 28 wins compared to 22 for the Ravens. Both teams have also come face-to-face in the playoffs on 4 occasions with the Steelers winning 3 of them. As for the Steelers’ rivalry with the Cincinnati Bengals, the side from The ‘Burgh have an impressive 63-35 record. Two postseason meetings have also ended in favor of the Steelers.
Some of the best players in the history of the game have proudly worn the Steelers’ crest over the years. These include the likes of Joe Greene, Andy Russell, Terry Bradshaw, John Stallworth and Bobby Layne among others. You can get Pittsburgh Steelers tickets now to witness the current crop in action as they look to cement their own places in Steelers’ folklore.
Apart from their 6 Super Bowl triumphs, the Steelers have won 23 Division championships and 8 Conference titles while playing in the AFC. The 70s were by far their most successful decade in terms of trophies and major honors.
Led by Hall of Fame QB Terry Bradshaw, the Steelers won the Super Bowl 4 times during this period with back-to-back triumphs in 1974 and 1975. The other two Super Bowl wins came in 1978 and 1979. In addition, 7 Division championships and 4 Conference titles rounded up the team’s trophy haul during the 70s. This remains one of the most dominant dynasties the NFL has ever seen.
The Steelers have been owned by the prominent Rooney family since the franchise’s inception. Art Rooney, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Olympic qualifier boxer, was the first owner of the team. The baton has been passed down over the years to the next generation of the family.
Following Art Rooney’s death in 1988, the franchise was taken over by his son Dan Rooney who stayed in control until his death in 2017. Art Rooney II, the son of Dan Rooney, is the current owner of the Steelers. He plans to lead the franchise into a new era of on-field and off-field success.

Martavis Bryant wants to leave the Steelers
According to reports filtering in, Martavis Bryant has decided to quit the Pittsburgh Steelers. The receiver is not too happy about his situation at the franchise and that is basically the reason why he wants a trade. The gripe Bryant has is that he is not involved in the offense as much as he would like and that does not sit well with him. On the other hand, the same reports also say that the Steelers’ management rates him and are not open to a trade as of right now. But this is NFL and things can change pretty quickly here.
Le'Veon Bell has signed on the dotted line
There is some very good news for the Pittsburgh Steelers fans. After a long standoff, Le'Veon Bell has finally signed on the dotted line which means that the Steelers now have one of their most important players under contract. Bell ended the impasse on September 1, 2017 and according to reports he will get a whopping $21.1 million in base salary this year. He is one of only two players in the NFL over the last two campaigns that amassed in excess of 100 rushing yards per game.
