The Inception

Jim L. Hewitt was an Orlando based businessman. He talked to Pat Williams, the Philadelphia 76ers general manager, about his dreams of taking an NBA side to Orlando. Williams was sold on the idea and the two of them went to work to make it possible. All their hard work was rewarded when the NBA finally gave Orlando an expansion team in the year 1987. The franchise officially was formed two years later.

The Performances

The Orlando Magic failed to qualify for the postseason in each of the first four seasons. It was in the 1993-1994 campaign that they went to the playoffs for the first time ever. Their run ended when they lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round.

The next season turned out to be a successful one for the Magic as they clinched their first division championship that year. They put the icing on the cake by winning the conference title that very same season too.
