New Orleans Saints Tickets

It was in awe of New Orleans & its miraculous resurgence after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina that sports columnists nationwide penned these words following the unbelievable scenes of February 7th at the Sun Life Stadium. The New Orleans Saints clinched their first-ever Super Bowl Championship with a 31-17 battering of the Indianapolis Colts to rewrite history, four years after they were forced to play most of the regular season out of the city in the face of Hurricane Katrina's national tragedy. It was a thunderous comeback for the Saints, an American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana, which had persistently been labeled as underachievers throughout their checkered history. The Saints play in the South Division of the National Football Conference of the NFL, having switched from the West Division in 2002. And with sizzling form on their team's side, the undying faith of the Black & Gold supporters has been rewarded with the nation's most prestigious football trophy.

New Orleans Saints Tickets

Date & Time
New Orleans Saints Tickets The Saints play in the Louisiana Superdome, the largest fixed dome structure in the world. The 83m Lamella multi-ringed frame of the dome looks down on a cauldron of noise & passion, with up to 72,968 delirious fans carrying New Orleans Saints tickets filling it on match-days. The Superdome has hosted the home games since 1975, before which Tulane Stadium was the Saints' home. There is an interruption in this sequence, when in 2005 Hurricane Katrina forced the Saints to play their home games in the Giants Stadium, Tiger Stadium & Alamodome. Local sports entrepreneur Dave Dixon masterminded the awarding of a football franchise to the city of New Orleans in November 1966. NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle sought congressional approval for the proposed AFL-NFL merger, & Congressman Hale Boggs & Senator Russell Long only ceded to the plea when Rozelle approved a franchise for New Orleans, something that Dixon had been campaigning about for a long time. Named the Saints after "When the Saints Go Marching In", the rousing jazz song enmeshed in the city's history, the team started off encouragingly.
A 3-11 first season record in 1967 was the highest for an expansion team, but mediocrity set in quickly. Only twice (1979, 1983) did the Saints manage to touch .500 during their first two decades, though coach Jim Mora, aided by the famous "Dome Patrol"-marshaled hard-line defense, led a slow revival with a Division Championship in 1991. It was not until 2000 that a second Division title was won under Jim Haslett, but the team never kicked on. Hurricane Katrina was an unexpected spanner in the works. The Hurricane wreaked havoc in the city & the Superdome, where thousands fleeing the disaster sought shelter. Returning to the Superdome in 2006 with a stirring 23-3 win over Atlanta Falcons, the team went from strength to strength under the coaching of Sean Payton, bettering their 2006 Division title by an NFC Championship against the Minnesota Vikings in 2009. This qualified the Saints for Super Bowl XLIV, where in the most highly-rated program in broadcast history, the Saints triumphed.
Tom Benson is the popular owner of the New Orleans Saints, having held the office since purchasing the franchise from John Wecom in 1985. Mickey Loomis holds General Managerial duties, while Sean Payton has been serving as Head Coach since 2006, completing the selection panel. Payton was awarded the AP NFL Coach of the Year Award in 2006, the year he took over the Saints. Some very famous players have donned the Black & Gold jersey, including the "Dome Patrol" line-backing corps Rickey Jackson, Sam Mills, Vaughan Johnson & Pat Swilling; Doug Atkins & Dew Brees. The Saints are riding on the crest of a sensational turnaround in fortunes. They have won the West & South Divisions twice each in their history, with 2009 being the only year that they lifted the NFC Championship. They progressed to the Super Bowl, winning the ultimate prize for the first time. Quarterback Drew Brees was the MVP. The Saints also have eight Pro Football Hall-of-Famers, with four players (Rickey Jackson, Jim Taylor, Doug Atkins & Earl Campbell), three coaches & one GM in the ranks.
New Orleans Saints tickets are a prized commodity in town for the Saints title defense. The team has turned a new page, transforming inconsistent performers into world-beaters. Caught up in the whirlwind of excitement, natives of New Orleans will doubtless be queuing up for the next season's New Orleans Saints tickets.

New Orleans Saints Rivalries

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons are recognized as the biggest rivals of the Saints. Perhaps what adds to this rivalry is the close proximity between the two team’s states. The week before their games is called “Hate Week” by fans because demonstrations of aggressive support begin online and on television. The score between these teams maintains the momentum as well, as it is close to balanced. The two teams have faced off 94 times with the Falcon’s leading 49-45. This is as neck-to-neck as it gets. The recent drafting of Drew Brees by New Orleans is expected to change the game, however, and New Orleans may be able to gain a lead in 2017.

Minnesota Vikings

The Saints’ rivalries are anything but basic, as right after Atlanta, Minnesota is considered some of their greatest competition. September 1970 was the first time the teams played one another and the Vikings won 26-0. The teams have met 31 times since then. The Saints faced a bitter loss on January 6th 2001 against the Vikings. They had approached the game on a high, with a divisional victory in the NFC West. However, they were unable to provide any resistance to the Vikings and lost the game 34-16.

In contrast, the most recent game before the 2017 playoffs between these two teams has been in 2014, which the Saints won 20-9. Therefore, while there have certainly been highs and lows in this rivalry, the Saints have every chance to obliterate the Vikings in the 2017 football season.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS NEWS AND UPDATES

The Saints edge out Panthers in a thriller

The New Orleans Saints have beaten the Carolina Panthers in a thrilling encounter 31-26. Drew Brees turned back the clock and delivered a vintage performance by throwing for 376 yards. He also recorded two touchdowns in the process. He was not the only player that turned up for the Saints. Cameron Jordan’s contributions were just as vital. He was instrumental in stopping a last minute rally by the Panthers in the last minute. The Saints were far from their best but they had enough in the tank to topple the Panthers. Up next for the Saints are the Minnesota Vikings.
