Denver Nuggets: A Proud Tradition
The Denver Nuggets started life as a pro basketball franchise in 1967. Known as the Denver Larks upon inception, they were one of the charter teams of the old American Basketball Association (ABA). However, just before starting their first season, the side became known as the Denver Rockets.
Another name change followed in 1974 and the franchise has operated under the Denver Nuggets moniker ever since. In 1976, the Nuggets made it to their maiden ABA Finals which were also the last one before the ABA-NBA merger.
Time in NBA
After the creation of the new NBA, the Nuggets became a part of the league’s Western Conference Midwest Division. Since 2004, they have been associated with the Northwest Division. The Pepsi Center is the Nuggets’ current home arena, a place they share with the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche.
For much of their existence, the side from the Mile-High City has been a perennial playoff contender. In fact, they have put together impressive streaks when it comes to postseason qualification. During the 80s, the Nuggets made the playoffs in 9 straight campaigns before going one better from 2004 to 2013.
They are one of only four remaining ABA teams that joined the NBA at the time of the big merger in 1976. You can buy Denver Nuggets tickets to follow their journey during the ongoing season.
