With the honor going to 14 teams that included men's fencing, men’s outdoor track, men’s skiing, women’s cross country, women’s rowing, football, women's fencing, women’s indoor track, women’s field hockey, women’s outdoor track, women’s skiing, women’s soccer, women’s swimming, women’s volleyball and women’s tennis; the football program that was honored with the award  was one of the five only A teams of the Division I that received such an honor, the other four being Stanford, Navy, Duke and Auburn. This came as a huge achievement for the Eagles who now have established a strong fan base. The Big East Conference’s founding members, the Boston College Eagles also well regarded as joining a big name in the collegiate athletic leagues, The Atlantic Coat Conference in 2005. At present the Eagles are not just one of the only sixteen universities of the Big East Conference but their name is also attached to the prestigious Atlantic Coast Conference.
