Get To Know About The Band
Weezer was formed in 1992 in Los Angeles. It currently consists of Scott Shriner (backing vocalist/bassist), Brian Bell (keyboardist, backing vocalist, and rhythm guitarist), Patrick Wilson (drummer), and Rivers Cuomo (lead guitarist/lead vocalist). The band’s line-up has changed three times since it was formed.
Achieving Stardom
In 1993, Weezer signed a deal with Geffen Records and came out with their debut album, Weezer/The Blue Album, in 1994. Backed by hit music videos of ‘Say It Ain’t So’ and ‘Buddy Holly,’ the record became an instant success. It received critical acclaim and achieved a triple-platinum certification. This was followed by their sophomore album, Pinkerton (1996), which featured a more abrasive and darker sound. The record was not a commercial success, however it went on to receive critical acclaim several years later. After the release of their second album, the band’s bassist (Matt Sharp) left the group and Weezer went on a hiatus.
Storming Into The 2000s
Weezer made a comeback in 2001 with The Green Album, which was supported by hit singles like ‘Island in the Sun’ and ‘Hash Pipe.’ The next year, they released another album titled Maladroit, which was welcomed with positive reviews. Throughout the 2000s, they continued to release several albums including Make Believe (2005) and Raditude (2009).
