Date & Time

Before forming the Avett Brothers , Scott used to play in his college band name Nemo, while Seth was the vocalist and guitarist of his high school band named Margo. Scott disbanded his band Nemo later on, but before that he also joined forces with Margo. The other members of the band included Ben Sawyer, Noah Warner, and Kenny Graham. The band enjoyed mediocre success and exposure and also landed a record deal with Rodell Records.

The brothers initially started playing music with each other after Nemo and Margo merged into one. This gave the brothers an opportunity to experiment some acoustic music along with the company of their friends. Soon after, a few street and other small scale performances followed which ultimately led to the creation of "The Back Porch Project", which was basically an early incarnation of their yet to be formed band. The brothers used to perform during gatherings and get-togethers, and later they tickled their writerly muscles and started writing their own stuff. And so in 2000, the duo came up with a LP titled The Avett Bros , with some help by John Tworney of Nemo.

Later on, the brothers moved away from the ordinary, and started working on something that was a bit different from the tradition acoustic rock music, and in the mean time the band Nemo disbanded. After the breakup of the band, Scott and Seth recruited a bass player Bob Crawford in 2002. Before joining the Avett Brothers , Crawford used to play along with The Memphis Quick 50. With this original lineup, the Avett Brothers recorded their debut album titled Country Was, which was followed by a nationwide tour to help promote the album. After the tour came to a conclusion, the band once again set foot in the studio to record their follow up album in 2002. The brothers spent over 70 hours in the studio to bring their follow up album to its final form. The band released its new studio album in 2003 and it was titled A Carolina Jubilee. The next album that followed, surfaced in 2004 and it was titled Mignonette. With this album, the band established its signature style of music, with their new & more refined compositions and carefully written lyrics.

In 2005, the band went on tour across the states along with the band BR5-49, and before that they rocked the stage of The Neighborhood Theatre in Charlotte in front of the sold out crowd. In early 2006, the band also released Four Thieves Gone: The Robbinsville Sessions, which earned them critical acclaim. In the September of the same year, the band released its follow up album titled The Gleam. The following year in 2007, the band made its national television debut when they appeared on the Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Also in 2007 the band released its first chart topping album called Emotionalism which peaked at the #1 spot on the Billboard Top Heat Seekers Albums chart. The brothers also claimed two Americana Music Association Awards in 2007 for the categories of New/Emerging Artist of the Year and Dup/Group of the Year.

The band made its major label debut when they released their 2009 album titled I and Love and You. The album was released on American Recordings and received positive reviews overall. As of the moment, the band is out of the studio to bring their act live for their listeners.
