Highlights

Known for their politically charged songs, Steel Pulse’s debut studio album, 'Handsworth Revolution' is considered a landmark by many publications and a high point in the British reggae history. It also featured a single, Ku Klux Clan which is acknowledged as a classic by many fans and critics. As the '80s approached, the guys started to incorporate elements of R&B and dance music into their sound while writing songs about the same subject matter. This led them to release albums like 'True Democracy' and 'Earth Crisis.' The former became their first effort to chart in America, making both the R&B and pop listings.

Steel Pulse captured the most success when they dropped their album, 'Babylon the Bandit' in 1986. This record brought them more fame in the United States and got them their first Grammy Award for 'Best Reggae Album,' making them the first non-Jamaican artist to win the accolade.

Return to the Studio with Mass Manipulation

Following the release of their hit 2004 album, 'African Holocaust,' Steel Pulse quit making music and focused largely on touring. However, after 15 years, the group returned to the studio and released their latest album, 'Mass Manipulation' in 2019.

The record is influenced by strong political themes and contains 17 songs including, World Gone Mad, No Satan Side and Cry Cry Blood. The effort also generated a positive response from the critics with Billboard stating, "Mass Manipulation establishes a 21^st century benchmark for politically charged reggae.' The record was also nominated for a Grammy in the category of  'Best Reggae Album.'
