The hip-hop trio Salt N Pepa has changed the way people and especially females view hip-hop music. Their bold rap lyrics and music videos have been an eye opener, as they were directed towards sexism and breaking stereotypes and showing through their music that they are not afraid to speak their mind about men as well. It then led to a massive hit of their song, "Let's Talk About Sex".

Their Journey to Fame

When they released their single "The Showstoppa" in 1985, it hit the R&B Charts and the trio was approached by the Next Plateau Records to record a full album. Deidra Roper was only 16 when she was approached by the original Salt N Pepa to be their DJ and together they recorded their first album "Hot, Cool and Vicious". The album produced some great hit songs like "Tramp", "Push It" and "Chick On The Side".  It was not long before their second album was launched in 1988 titled "A Salt with a Deadly Pepa". The album was a tremendous hit with over 800,000 copies sold worldwide, out of which 600,000 being within US itself, along with obtaining a gold status as well. The R&B hits like "Get Up Everybody (Get Up)" and "Twist and Shout" made it to the UK and European music charts.

Salt N Pepa Comeback

In 2014, "Push It" was featured in the Geico Insurance advertisement. Furthermore, another one of their hit song "Shoop" made a return as the main theme song for the blockbuster 2016 Marvel movie Deadpool. In 2018, the trio toured various parts of the UK as a part of the "I Love The 90's" tour.
