Railroad Earth was formed when the members of the band met up in 2001. Its original lineup consisted of Todd Sheaffer, Tim Carbone, John Skehan, Andy Goessling, Carey Harmon and Dave Von Dollen. Its original songs were written by Todd Sheaffer who was formerly the songwriter of the group From Good Homes. It started as a way to hang out and have fun with the band recording an untitled demo. This demo changed their lives and set them on a career in the world of music. Brian Ross joined Railroad Earth as its manager and sent out their demo to various festivals, landing them a spot at the Telluride Bluegrass Festivals, one of the most famous festivals in bluegrass music. They performed live at this festival, their tenth live performance ever, and in 2001, began work on their first album. It was released in summer that year a week before the Telluride Bluegrass Festival was held and was titled as The Black Bear Sessions. It is today one of the group’s most popular albums with some of its best songs.
After its live performance, Railroad Earth was signed with Sugar Hill Records and released its next album in 2002, titled as Bird In A House, containing hit songs such as Mighty River and Like A Buddha. It was followed by heavy touring and a larger fan following than before. It had become a staple act, always on the lineup of jam band, roots and folk music festivals. Even the venues where the band performed grew larger and their fans nicknamed themselves as Hobos. In 2003, lineup changes saw Dave Von Dollen as the band’s new bassist after Johnny Grubb left and in 2004, its third album The Good Life was released. It contained hit songs such as Storms, Goat and Mourning Flies. This was followed by heavy touring and live concerts performed all over the US.
In 2006, Railroad Earth released the live album, Elko, and in 2007, performed at the famous Austin City Limits Music Festival. In 2008, they released their fourth album Amen Corner which contained popular songs such as Lovin’ You, Been Down This Road and Dog. In 2010, they released a self-titled album which contained popular songs such as Too Much Information and Jupiter and the 119. By this time, its music was blending in rock and roll, celtic music and even jazz to its sounds, creating music that no other band can compare to.
With a discography spawning five studio albums and one live album, Railroad Earth has made a name for itself in the world of roots, bluegrass and folk music as a band to be enjoyed live in all its glory via the use of Railroad Earth tickets for an experience that any fan of music will never forget.
