Michael Kiwanuka: Style and Substance All Rolled Into One

British folk rock and indie performer Michael Kiwanuka started his musical journey by playing different gigs on the indie scene. He got his first major one at The Oxford Tavern in London’s Kentish Town neighborhood. In 2011, he released his debut EP Tell Me a Tale after signing his first record deal.

Kiwanuka was a supporting act on Adele’s 2011 tour Adele Live as well as her gig at the iTunes Festival that year. The following year, he released his debut studio album Home Again which went to number 4 on the UK Official Albums Chart. It was certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

The Londoner’s next album came out in 2016. Titled Love & Hate, it topped the UK Official Albums Chart while also ranking within the top 10 in Belgium and the Netherlands. Kiwanuka counts the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Jack Johnson and Joni Mitchell among his musical inspirations.

The talented Michael Kiwanuka has been honored at many prestigious award shows around the world including the HiPipo Music Awards, Worldwide Awards and the LOS40 Music Awards. He has also picked up nominations at the MTV Europe Music Awards, Brit Awards, BBC Music Awards, MOBO Awards and the Hyundai Awards among others.
