Good was born on the 29th of June, 1971 in Canada. This Canadian native started his musical career when he demonstrated his music abilities in demos relating to folk music. At the same time, he got the opportunity to showcase his vocal talents when he was selected to be the lead vocalist of a local band, the Rodchester Kings. With his impressive vocal chords, it was only a matter of time before he was spotted by talent hunters and manager Brent Christensen. The venue was an open mic at the Simon Fraser University where Matthew along with Simon Woodcock who played the guitars were both praised and noticed for their talents.
The early nineties was a period of small openings and chances as Matthew could not break through into the mainstream and he was left with no option but to record tapes which were short but still demonstrated his talents. Some of these tapes were Left of Normal, Broken and Euphony. These demo tapes had acoustic versions of songs that have by now become very famous. Songs that included Mercy misses you, Heather’s Like Sunday and Euphony. Critics were already sitting up and taking notice of this precocious talent and consequently he was given the first prize on the Fox’s Seeds competition which was a local Vancouver based radio show that was aired on 99.3. It was here that Matthew Good recorded his famous demo tape titled 15 hours on a September Thursday.
Audiences were treated to such delightful tracks as Second Sun, The Ocean and Last of the Ghetto Astronauts. Matthew was assisted in the recording of this demo tape by Steve Codling, Ariel Watson, Eran Vooys and Judy Renouf. This was to be the last release of the band before it split up at the end of 1994. But things were only getting better for Good. He collaborated with new partners and the end result was the phenomenally successful Last of the Ghetto Astronauts. The album was not only successful in Canada but it was also able to cross boundaries and make a mark on the US scene. Some of the songs that were hits included Alabama Motel Room, Symbolistic White Walls and Have’nt Slept in Years. The album was a watershed moment as it set new benchmarks for recording artists. Although it took only five thousand dollars to make it, the album reached such heights that it was declared as the highest selling album by a Canadian artist. Now you too can listen to all those timeless classics if you buy Matthew Good tickets.
Matthew had an even more successful solo career after he left the band. His maiden effort came out in 2003 and was titled Avalanche. The result was a departure from his previous style of music that had been his prior hallmark as this time Matthew had incorporated a different approach. Some of his songs also included music by Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Some of these songs were Weapon and In a World called Catastrophe. Do not lose this once in a lifetime chance to listen to this groundbreaking artist belting out his all time hits. Treat yourself to an evening of pure delight. Buy Matthew Good tickets now.
