Matoma

Matoma got into music at an early age and learned piano during his childhood years. With the passage of time, he perfected his piano playing skills and even won a contest which earned him a chance to perform with notable Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and HåvardGimse. He eventually became tired of classical piano which led to him mixing on his computer. This resulted in him producing music on his PC by using different DAWs before settling on Cubase 8 Pro.

While experimenting with the software, Matoma crafted his signature sound and released the song, Free Fallin Tropical Mojito Remix (John Mayer Tribute) on his 23rd birthday. Following the release of that track, he was then asked to remix the Marlon Roudette’s song, When the Beat Drops by the Universal Germany. He released the track in July, 2014. He then remixed Old Thing Back by The Notorious B.I.G. which helped him bring some international recognition. This track landed at the 24th spot on the Dance/Electronic Songs chart and was certified silver by the BPI.

Matoma came out with his debut studio record, ‘HakunaMatoma’ on November 13, 2015. The record contained original as well as remix version of popular songs. It produced seven singles including, False Alarm which became a big hit in Europe, landing at the third spot in Norway and was certified gold in the United Kingdom.

After three years, Matoma returned with his next studio project, ‘One in a Million.’ This effort brought him some popularity in the United States and reached at the seventeenth spot on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. It also contained guest appearances by Enrique Iglesias, James Newman, Becky Hill, Noah Cyrus and The Vamps.

Both of these tracks received millions of hits on SoundCloud, Spotify and other streaming services. The duo was also honored with the ‘Award of Independent Excellence’ from Hollywood Music in Media Awards.
