Developing Interest in Country Music
Born in Calgary in 1989, Lindsay Ell’s interest in music sparked when she was in her adolescent years. At the age of six, Ell started to learn piano and then she found her father’s collection of guitars. In her own words,
“I fell in love with the guitar. It's a huge part of who I am.”
After learning guitar, she fell for the blues and before long, she had begun to polish her songwriting talents. She soon graduated from Bishop Carroll High School and later went to study music at the Berklee College of Music. She then started to develop a strong liking for country music. Ell recalls,
“My dad will tell you that when I was little, the car radio had to be on the country station. If my older brother touched the dial, I would beg him to turn it back.”
When Lindsay Ell turned fifteen, she bumped into the famous Canadian musician, Randy Bachman who was impressed by what she had to offer. He took her under his wings and helped produce and co-write her debut studio record, ‘Consider This.’ Ell recorded this album at Bachman’s studio and released it on December 31, 2008.
A fusion of country and folk sounds, the record omposed of eleven songs including, Seize the Moment, Take it From Me, Slightly Out of Tune and A Thousand Miles Away. Following the release of ‘Consider This,’ she embarked on a tour with Buddy Guy. In February of 2009, she came out with her sophomore studio effort, ‘Alone’ which featured a more acoustic sound and contained twelve songs on the track-list.
Moving to Nashville
In order to pursue music seriously, Lindsay Ell took a flight to Nashville when she turned twenty one. She then landed a record deal with Stoney Creek Records and came out with her debut single, Trippin’ on Us. The song made waves in Canada as well as the United States and peaked at the fourteenth and forty sixth spots on the Canada Country and Country Airplay chart respectively. The success of the song led to Taste of Country naming her, ‘A Star in the Making.’ She then went on to churn out four more singles, Pickup Truck, Shut Me Up, By The Way and Alright.
In March of 2017, Lindsay Ell came out with her debut extended play, ‘Worth the Wait.’ Produced by Kristian Bush, the EP composed of six songs including, Standing Here, Space and Stop This Train. Five months later, she released her first major-label studio record, ‘The Project.’ It climbed to the fortieth spot on the Billboard 200 and was supported by two singles, Waiting On You and Criminal. The latter turned out to be her first song to land at the top spot in Canada and was praised by publications like, Taste of Country and CMT.

Lindsay Ell’s latest studio album, ‘The Continuum Project’ dropped on May 25, 2018. This record featured her take on multiple John Mayer songs including, Waiting on the World to Change, Belief, Gravity, Dreaming with a Broken Heart and Bold as Love.
