My Turn
Lil Baby recently treated the fans with his second album My Turn. The record was released via Wolfpack Music Group, Quality Control Music, Motown and Capitol Records. The collection features appearances by a number of acclaimed music acts. Some of these are Future, Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, Gunna, 42 Dugg and Moneybagg Yo. The record was supported by the singles Sum 2 Prove and Woah.
The album’s release date and artwork was disclosed in January of 2020. Its first single Woah was shared for digital download in November 2019 while its music video came out the following month and received much praise.
Comprising a total of twenty tracks, the album opens with the song Get Ugly. The energetic number is exactly what fans expect from him as an introduction, both on album and on stage.
A large part of the album is about life on the streets and the uncertainty and struggles that come with pursuing a rap dream. As in the song Commercial, the singer vows “They want me catch a murder, I ain’t goin’ back.”
My Turn has received a positive response from the music critics. In a review in the renowned publication Rolling Stone, the rapper was praised for his lyrical skills. The review read “Baby's great strength is that he conveys emotion effortlessly; he doesn't need to formally unpack old traumas to bear them out.”
The album has fared well commercially too. It debuted atop the US Billboard 200, becoming the singer’s first number one record in America.
My Turn Scholarship
In March 2020, Lil Baby and Amazon Music’s Rap Rotation, Wolfpack Global, Motown Records and Quality Control Music announced a scholarship named after the rapper’s new album. The My Turn Scholarship will be awarded to students at the Booker T. Washington High School that have displayed excellence in the classroom and in terms of leadership. It will be given out on an annual basis, starting from 2020. Baby visited the institution recently and donated $150,000.
