Getting Their Career on the Road
Lake Street Dive was founded in 2004 by Rachael Price, Mike Olson, Bridget Kearney, Mike Calabrese and Akie Bermiss. The group was initially created as a free country band but Olsen later rejected the concept. The guys then recorded a song which was penned down by Kearney and submitted it to the John Lennon Songwriting Contest which they won. The quintet soon started to jot down ideas for their debut album and before long they began the recording process and released, 'In This Episode' in 2006. A year later, they released their follow-up record, 'Promises, Promises.'
Following the release of their first two albums, Lake Street Dive signed a record deal with Signature Sounds Recordings which issued their eponymous effort on November 9, 2010. The record featured fourteen tracks and received positive reviews. A couple of years later, the guys came out with their next studio project, 'Fun Machine' which climbed to the fifteenth spot on the Heatseekers Albums chart and featured six songs including a cover of Sir Paul McCartney song, Let Me Roll It. The guys then changed their focus to performing live and went on to play more than 300 concerts in over 175 cities.
Lake Street Dive discovered fame when they released their cover of Jackson 5 song, I Want You Back which became a huge hit, amassing over 6 million hits on YouTube. In 2013, the band performed at the FreshGrass Festival which was filmed and directed by Mason Jar Music. A year later, they issued their next studio effort, 'Bad Self Portraits' which was approved by AllMusic, PopMatters and Slant Magazine.
The band then came out with three more studio albums, 'Side Pony,' 'Free Yourself Up' and 'Freak Yourself Out.' The second record from the list reached at the eighth spot on the Billboard 200 and received 66/100 rating from Metacritic.
