However, unable to get his big break, Vile moved to Boston where he worked as a fork lift operator for two years. Knowing that his true passion in life was music, he decided to quit the blue collared job and moved back to Philadelphia. Upon his return he became acquainted with a songwriter named Adam Granduciel. Together the two decided to form an indie rock band in 2005 which they named "The War on Drugs." Working together for three years, the two came forth with their debut studio release. Titled "Wagonwheel Blues" the record was able to gather massive success in their hometown. With this the two decided to embark on a promotional album tour.
During this time, Vile was approached by Gulcher Records to sign a deal with the label. After signing a contract, Vile released his solo album titled "Constant Hitmaker" in the same year. "Constant Hitmaker" treated audiences with fourteen tracks that include hits such as "Freeway", "Breathin’ Out", "Space Forklife" and "Slow Talkers." Supporting genres of indie rock and lo-fi music, the debut record received positive critic reviews. It was rated 7.2 out of 10 by the critic publication Pitchfork. With the record, the artist was able to achieve the fame he was aiming for. He decided to quit playing with the band "The War on Drugs" and concentrate on his solo career.
A year later, Kurt Vile released his sophomore album through Mexican Summer Records. This album was named "God Is Saying This to You" and carried the same genres as the debut release. It consisted of a total of twelve numbers including the title track "God is Saying This to You", "My Sympathy," "Red Apples," "Beach on the Moon" and "Can’t Come" to name a few. Likewise the previous album, this record was well received as well. It was awarded a score of 7.6 out of 10 by Pitchfork.
Since then Kurt Vile has come forth with three more studio albums namely 2009’s "Childish Prodigy", 2011’s "Smoke Ring for My Halo" and 2013’s "Wakin on a Pretty Daze." His most recent release has made its way to the charts all across US, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and the UK. In his shows the indie rock singer is backed by a live band that consists of the Jesse Trbovich on guitars, saxophone and bass guitar, Rob Laakso on guitars, keyboards, bass guitar and Vince Nudo handling percussion and drums.
