His birth name is David Blatt, which he changed to Jay Black, in order to match with the band’s existing name. Jay Black tickets offer the chance to watch the musician live in action.

Jay Black Tickets

Born in New York, Black grew up in Brooklyn. He began his music career as a song writer. He had a severe case of stage fright, due to which he preferred to stay in the background, writing and producing songs. Before joining Jay and the Americans, he was part of a band named ‘The Empire’, for which he became the lead singer. Overcoming his stage fright, Black joined Jay and the Americans in 1962 who were looking to replace their lead singer Jay Traynor.

Black’s vocals provided the missing ingredient in their recipe for chart topping tracks. As soon as he joined the band, Jay and the Americans saw a series of hits on the United Artists label. ‘Only In America’ was released in 1963 and ranked number twenty five on the Billboard charts. Their success continued to flourish with ‘Come a Little Bit Close’ which grabbed the third spot in 1964 and ‘Cara Mia’ which reached number four spot on the rankings in 1965.

Their popularity led them to make numerous television appearances on shows such as ‘Where The Action Is,’ ‘Hullabaloo and Johnny Carson.’ Their song ‘Two of a Kind’ was selected for the movie ‘Wild, Wild Winter’. Jay led his troupe to open for The Beatles’ debut United States performance and Jay and the Americans also opened for The Rolling Stones.

After almost a decade of successful performances, the band faced difficulties in the early 70s. Eventually Jay and the Americans decided to disband, with the members pursuing solo careers. The band did get back together during the 90s for special performances. Jay Black, however, continued to perform with a number of musicians under the name of Jay and the Americans. Future Grammy Award winners, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen also temporarily became part of his crew.

The talented Jay Black was invited to act as well in the seventies. Renée Valenti a casting director, saw Jay perform and auditioned him for a role in Frank Sinatra’s movie "Contract on Cherry Street". He confidently auditioned, changing the dialogues to suit his style. The casting director and director were so impressed by the confident singer that they gave him a role for which over two thousand actors were trying out.

Unfortunately Black had a gambling problem, which saw him file for bankruptcy in 2006. He got to keep his stage name Jay Black, but had to sell the name Jay Black and the Americans to former band mate, Sandy Deanne. Jay decided to focus on being an entertainer rather than a recording artist, as he faced contractual difficulties with various recording companies. The decision worked in his favor, with his stand-up comedy acts getting popular. According to Jay, he says "I'm an entertainer who happens to sing."

Jay helped his band record twenty one chart topping singles. He sang ‘Cara Mia’ in his stirring voice in 2001, which led to the rise in popularity. Rightfully titled ‘The Voice’ Jay has a number of fans eager to hear him sing live. His unequalled, record number of sell out concerts at the Westbury Music Fair in New York has earned him another nickname "The King of Westbury."Get Jay Black Tickets and hear the singer as he makes the audience come alive.
