The English jazz-pop singer-songwriter, Jamie Cullum was born in 1979. This Essex native was brought up in Hullavington. Primarily focusing on music as a veteran vocalist and pianist, this innovative is familiar with other instruments including the guitar as well as drums. He has been presenting a jazz show on BBC Radio 2, which is broadcasted weekly.
With very little funds, Cullum released his debut album in 1999 by the title Heard it All Before. As the funds were limited only five hundred copies were made. Due to rarity of the copies, by simple application of the demand and supply equation, the original copies sold for six hundred pounds on eBay. Succeeding the tremendous success of his first album, Cullum was invited by Geoff Gascoyne to appear on his album titled Songs of the Summer.
Once Cullum graduated from the Reading University, this artist presented his fans with Pointless Nostalgic, which became the best-selling album. Given the success of this second album, Jamie Cullum caught the attention of English broadcasters Melvyn Bragg and Michael Parkinson. Cullum made his first television appearance in 2003 in Parkinson, which was followed by signing up a contract with Universal. The signing of the agreement was followed by another studio album. The third studio album released by this jazz artist, made ‘number one selling album’ in the UK. The album titled Twentysomething, was released in 2003 and achieved the ‘platinum’ status as well. The end of year 2003 marked Cullum as the all time ‘biggest selling jazz artist’ in the United Kingdom. Hitting the high road to a successful career in the music industry, Cullum produced three more studio albums Catching Tales in 2005, The Pursuit in 2009 and Momentum in 2013. Enjoy the musical performance of this talented artist live on stage by getting Jamie Cullum tickets.
During his musical career, Jamie has drawn inspiration from numerous musicians. His inspirational music influences included an eclectic mix of music from Miles Davis to Tom Waits and more. Even with such great exposure to renowned musicians, Jamie considers Ben Cullum, his brother, the biggest musical influence. They collaborate with each other extensively.
Over the years, Cullum has also played in several bands with different instruments. He played the drums in a hip-hop group and strummed the guitar for rock bands including ‘The Mystery Machine’ and ‘Raw Sausage’. Cullum is not only known as a veteran pianist but he has also established a distinctive style and charismatic appeal.
Along with charisma and style, this creative artist also brings innovation to the stage. One such thing is Stomp box, which is featured in his concerts. Cullum found this in Melbourne; it is a small wooden box that is used to amplify the sound by rhythmically stamping the foot on it. Jamie uses the stomp box to enhance the fast paced up beat songs such as "Gold Digger" (originally by Kanye West) and "Seven Nation Army" (originally by The White Stripes). Other unique items witnessed in his concerts and gigs include the looping machines and the beatboxes.
Besides Kayne West and The White Stripes, Jamie is known for his work with renowned artists such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Pussycat Dolls, Elton John, Justin Timberlake, John Legend and many more. Cullum has also performed at numerous festivals including ‘New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival’ in 2005, the ‘Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival’ in 2007 and more. This outclass artist also performed for the biggest ever crowd in 2006 on Queensday in the Netherlands. Primarily Cullum is a jazz musician but he is widely regarded as a ‘crossover’ artist.
