James Vernon Taylor, a native of Boston, was born in 1948. He had a lot of exposure to music ever since he was a child, as his mother was an aspiring opera singer. By the age of twelve, Taylor had learnt to play the cello and the guitar. He joined a few bands before deciding on his own solo career. “Sweet Baby Jane” was Taylor’s second studio release and it went on to rank at number three. His subsequent studio releases, such as “One Man Dog” and “Gorilla” also managed to attract attention. The musician is regarded as the harbinger of the singer-songwriter era. His commercial success declined slightly in the nineties, but he was fast to reclaim it with albums such as “October Road” and “Covers”, both of which featured on the charts.

With plenty of smash hit singles and charting albums to his name, Taylor has received many awards. He has won five Grammy Awards and is an inductee in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
