Hoobastank is a rock band based in Agoura Hills, California. They are perhaps most famous for their 2004 hit single, “The Reason” which charted on Billboard at number 2. The band was put together in 1994 and the original lineup consisted of Doug Robb, the lead singer, Chris Hesse, the drummer, Markku Lappalainen, the bassist, and Dan Estrin the guitarist. In the current lineup, however, Jesse Charland has replaced Lappalainen as the bass player. For nearly 11 years, they were signed to the “Island” recording company. Their most recent album, “Fight or Flight” was the first out of six studio records to be produced and distributed by “Open E Entrainment”, also known as EMI records.

In addition to the six albums, they have also released an extended play. Overall, they have managed to sell more than 10 million records. To promote their latest work, they have embarked on a tour of the US and will be visiting and performing at all major cities of the US. Hoobastank tickets for all the dates and venues are now available.
On the whole, Hoobastank classifies as a basic rock band, although they have experimented in many different subgenres of rock itself. When they first started out, they were known as a funk metal band. They also experimented with alternative and nu metal, and for a while, their songs also followed a ska punk theme. On the contrary, these days, they perform mostly in the post-grunge genre, with traces of hard rock and metal as well. While there might be heavier sounding bands out there, Hoobastank’s music is more radio friendly. This is perhaps why they have managed to chart not just in the rock listings, but in the overall mainstream singles as well.
The band first came together in 1994 in Agoura Hills. Robb and Estrin has already known each other for quite some time, and at one point during their high school years, had even played against one another in a "Battle of the Bands" show. They realized their artistic compatibility and decided to start a band. Lappalainen and Hesse were then recruited and the group was complete. In their early days, they would play as many local gigs as they could book. The places they would frequent were the "Cobalt Café" and the "Incubus ". By playing at all these trendy music hangouts, they began to develop a good name for themselves in Southern California. Anyone who frequented any music café in that area knew of them. This is how the band got noticed by "Island Records". And thus, the band scored their first major record deal in the year 2000.
By November of next year, they released their debut studio album, "Hoobastank". The lead single off this album was called "Crawling in the Dark". This song made quite the impact considering they were a new band. It reached the top 100 of Billboard and the top 10 of many rock charts. The song was also the top downloaded tune on "mp3.com" during that time. Moreover, the single was featured in many video games for "PlayStation", "Xbox", "Gamecube", and "PlayStation2". The follow up single was called "Running Away" and was even more commercially successful than the first. This song managed to crack the top 50, and was in the top three of all rock charts. Because of the great performance of these singles, the album received platinum status and was number 25 on the top albums chart. The success of this record led them towards their very first tour in which, with the help of their company, they also visited Europe and Asia and earned fans in different parts of the world.
The song that solidified their place as rock stars was the title track of their second studio album, "The Reason". This song cracked the top 10 in many countries including Germany, Australia, and Canada. It was in Canada in particular that they performed exceedingly well, spending 21 weeks on the top of the charts, setting a record. The album, too reached top 3 on the charts.
Their latest album is called "Fight or Flight" and it released in September 2012. The record has received mixed reviews so far. But those who are a fan of radio rock have thoroughly enjoyed the band’s newest endeavor. It is a modern rock album that comes as a nice break in the pop dominated culture. Hoobastank tickets for a concert featuring live performances of the track list are now available.
