Before forming Her, both Simon Carpenter and Victor Solf were members of the electro pop group, The Popopopops. They started to gain attention when they won the Autumn 2009 CQFD competition. A year later, they went on to perform at the Fête de l'Humanité which helped them become even more popular.
After developing a significant fan base, The Popopopops decided to put out new music and in 2012 they released their first EP, ‘A Quick Remedy.’ Issued by ZRP Records, the extended play featured five catchy songs including, My Mind is Old, Wavelength and R’n’R. The band then later went on to promote ‘A Quick Remedy’ and played a show at the Nouveau Casino in Paris before they hitting the studios to record their first studio album.
On March 25, 2013, The Popopopops released ‘Swell.’ The record had plenty of hit songs out of which they put out the music video of ‘Pure’ which has crossed ninety seven thousand views on YouTube. Judging by the success of their debut album, Carpenter and Solf decided to start a side project and the result was HER.
The arrival of HER
Simon Carpenter and Victor Solf formed Her in 2015. They quickly became the talk of town when they dropped their first single Quite Like. Influenced by R&B and electro sound, the track became incredibly popular everywhere which led to the duo releasing the track’s official video on July 9, 2015. So far, it has crossed seven hundred thousand views on YouTube.
Encouraged by that positive response, the duo began to work on its first extended play and in 2016 they came out with, ‘Her Tape #1.’ It featured the song, Five Minutes which featured on Apple’s campaign titled ‘Shot on iPhone.’
A year later, they began to work on their sophomore EP and released ‘Her Tape #2.’ This EP solidified their status as one of the most talented bands in R&B music. It consisted of six songs out of which two, Queens and Swim featured guest appearance from Zefire.
On August 13, 2017, Simon Carpenter passed away from cancer. This put the group’s future in doubt but Solf announced that he will continue to make music as Her in honor of his friend. He said:
“Together, we made a promise, the promise to continue this magnificent adventure at all costs, and today it is his legacy that I carry with me and it is my will and that of the whole team of Her. to continue to bring our music as far as possible.”
Her is currently on tour in support of ‘Her Tape #2.’ The band is currently trekking through North America and is yet to hit the stage at some famous venues like the Harlow’s Night Club, the Culture Room, the Union Transfer and the Bowery Ballroom.
