Green Day are legends of music. They have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and have sold millions of copies all around the world. The group has received five Grammy Awards including one in the category of, ‘Best Rock Album’ for their seventh studio record, ‘American Idiot.’ A stage adaptation of the album also debuted on Broadway in 2010 which went on to bag a couple of Tony Awards. The trio has recently released its new album titled, ‘Revolution Radio’ in 2016. It topped the Billboard 200. Green Day are one of the few names in the industry who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility. The group has played sold out shows in some of the most prestigious venues around the world and were ranked at the ninety first spot on VH1’s list of, ‘100 Greatest Artists of All Time.’

Climbing to the top

Green Day started their journey by getting signed to Lookout! Records. The band released a couple of EP’s titled, ‘1,000 Hours’ and ‘Slappy’ before they recorded their first studio album, ‘39/Smooth’ which came out in 1990. The album did not impress the critics. One year later in 1991 they released their second record through Lookout! which sold one million copies in the United States and was included in Blender’s list of, ‘The 500 Greatest Indie Rock Albums Ever’ in 2007.   

Signing with Reprise Records

Green Day released their third studio album via Reprise titled, ‘Dookie’ which catapulted them to global fame. It achieved diamond level sales in the U.S and became their best selling work to date. The group went on to record three more albums before coming out with their seventh studio effort, ‘American Idiot’ which was certified six times platinum by the RIAA.
