About the band

Green Day was initially formed as Sweet Children by childhood buddies Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt. Both of them had their first concert in California and following that, they started working with drummer John Kiffmeyer.

In 1988, Lookout! Records signed them and they released their first EP, 1,000. Before releasing it, the band changed their name to Green Day. They released a few albums with Lookout! which resulted in huge offers landing in their hands. The band signed a deal with Reprise Records and recorded their debut label Dookie in a period of three weeks. The album was a huge hit and went eight times platinum.
