George Thorogood And The Destroyers Tickets

George Thorogood is the blues-rock sensation that has been entertaining the world since the 70s. His music is sheer genius which can be strongly felt in his all time hit single “Bad-To-The-Bone” From Delaware; this third sibling out of five was a semi-professional baseball player before he opted to pursue music as a career after a John P. Hammond performance in 1970. Tides changed for good as if it hadn’t been for this career change, we might have missed so many hit songs and amazing performances throughout the decades from an artist pulling it off so cleverly that it’s almost genius.

Date & Time

George Thorogood and The Destroyers are hugely credited to "making" the Massachusetts based Rounder Records successful because of their over 15 million albums sales worldwide, with having two platinum and six gold albums out of their 16 studio albums. The band, along with their own hits, has also released numerous covers on a couple of blues standards by artists like John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley and Hank Williams. Also known as GT & D, this band came under the limelight after their superb performance alongside Jimmy Thackery and the Nighthawks in 1970. In 1977 the band came up with their self titled debut album and their second studio album followed the next year titled Move It On Over, containing cover version of Hank Williams’ hit single titled "Move It On Over". Thorogood had double thoughts once again about his career plans when in 1976 he was chosen as the baseball Rookie of the Year in Roberto Clemente League. The Destroyers persuaded George to quit baseball for good, so that he could focus on his music rather than being a jack of all trades.

The early 80s saw GT & D gain immense popularity. Thorogood performed with Rock n’ Roll sensation Rolling Stones and in 1980 his band had the famous "50/50" Tour in which the boys performed in the 50 states in a span of 50 nights. With all the fame came a contract with one of the leaders in the music industry, EMI America Records. With this new contract came the most well known hit single by Thorogood, Bad-To-The-Bone. The song was so successful that it was featured in box office hits like the Problem Child 1 and 2, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and also Stephen King’s thriller Christine along with featuring in sitcoms and video games like Rock n’ Roll Racing. American car manufacturer Buick also featured this song in their commercials for Grand National series cars in 1984.

To sum it up, Bad-To-The–Bone defined the 80s when it came to blues-rock. But that is, by no means the only thing GT & D produced that rocked the world and left an impact for years to come. In 1986, the band came up with Nadine which was a re-edited version of George Thorogood’s 1979 vinyl album. Born To Be Bad, their eighth album was released in 1988 and received positive reaction globally. The album peaked at No. 32 in Billboard 200 that year.  Boogie People, the follow up to their 1988 hit was also a success and peaked No.77 in Billboard 200.

Rockin’ My Life Away was a rather contemporary approach to blues, marking GT & D’s journey with Capitol Records in 1997. The album was ranked 5th on Billboard’s Top Blues Albums. Last decade has been very significant for the band, which included two hit albums. Their 2009 album The Dirty Dozen topped the Billboard’s Top Blues Album and remained in the charts for a staggering 11 weeks! This platinum album contained new as well as classic hits by everyone’s favourite blues band, presenting their legacy and the route they have undertaken.

GT & D gave a smashing performance on their 30th Anniversary Tour in 2004, which was a predecessor to the famous Live in Boston 1982 tour last year. Their live performances are effortless because of the hundreds of thousands of hours that they have been on stage. GT & D are having a world tour this year. We’ll be seeing them perform as far as Australia and they’ll be having a series of gigs and concerts in the US. Come and get your George Thorogood and The Destroyers Tickets for the shows they have in your city and experience the blues saga by the maestros of blues-rock.
