Origins of the musical Dragon
Only 28 years of age, G-Dragon has already become one of the most accomplished music artists in South Korea. Born and raised in Seoul, G-Dragon started his music career as a child star when he joined a band, Little Roo’Ra. It was a brief stint as the band’s contract was abruptly revoked, leaving heartbroken G-Dragon to give up music. However, he was discovered by an entertainment company, S.M. Entertainment, which worked on his dancing skills for five years. However, G-Dragon wasn’t sure at the time what direction to take in life.
The Rapping Dragon
A friend introduced G-Dragon to Wu-Tang Clan and the artist showed immediate interest. He was in the third grade then. By the age of 13, he had become the youngest South Korean rapper.
He signed a record deal with YG Entertainment, which worked on his singing and dancing skills for the next six years. It was only after hard work and perseverance that he became a member of the South Korean boy band Big Bang.
Big Bang Dragon
The band has been called Nation’s Boy Band and Kings of K-pop. With global record sales in excess of 140 million, Big Bang has become one of the best-selling boy bands in the world. The Washington Post has called them the biggest band in Asia.
