Born and raised in Toronto, Barlow comes from a family of professional musicians. Her father is an award winning and recognized jazz percussionist and her mother is also a jazz singer and arranger. Barlow’s family has really supported her throughout her music career and encouraged her to go for future music endeavors. The diva launched her professional career at the age of seven, when she started to sing for various radio and television ads and jingles. Her debut album ‘Sings’ was released in 1998 which introduced her melodious voice to the music lovers. Within the next three years, Barlow launched her second studio release ‘Tribute’ in 2001 that featured songs like ‘Mood Indigo’ and was nominated for the ‘Best Jazz Vocal Album’ at the Juno Awards.
Emilie Claire Barlow performed at the Living Arts Centre in Toronto in 2004 after her third studio release, where she was listed among one of the youngest performers to ever headline a concert at such a massive level. Her following albums ‘Like a Lover’ and ‘Winter Wonderland’ met with a wide commercial success and charted on national and international hit lists. The release of Barlow’s sixth studio album ‘The Very Thought of You’ took her career to newer heights of success and marked her tour to Japan which turned out to be a huge success. In 2008, Barlow was named as Artist of the Year. The album was also well received by the critics.
‘Haven’t We Met?’ was another critically and commercially successful album that remained on charts for a long time and got Barlow her third consecutive nomination for ‘Vocal Jazz Album of the Year’ at Juno Awards. Working devotedly and restlessly, Barlow experimented with her upcoming album ‘The Beat Goes On’ which fused jazz with popular soul and pop compositions of 1960s. The experiment proved to be successful and mood lifting with heartwarming singles like ‘The Beat Goes On/Soul Bossa Nova’ and ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head’ becoming very popular. The albums so far had established her repute as a talented and versatile singer on the international music scene.
Aiming to do even better, Barlow dedicated all her efforts to her new studio release ‘Seule Ce Soir’. Although she sang a couple of songs from her previous albums in French, but this endeavor was completely different and unique because it featured all the songs in French. ‘Sule Ce Soir’ was released in October, 2012 and it was a beautiful compilation of soothing jazz tunes with remarkably well adapted French accent of Barlow, which turned the album into a masterpiece. The album was well received by her listeners and critics alike and won Emilie Barlow a well deserved Juno Award for ‘Vocal Jazz Album of the Year’ in 2013. The album proved her great artistic taste, high caliber and boosted her public image. Barlow’s unique voice has been her greatest asset that got her into voice acting. She has voiced a number of characters in various films and television series among which Total Drama, Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Stoked, 6teen and Almost Naked Animals are most prominent.
