The year was 1977 when Def Leppard were formed. They released their debut album titled "On Through the Night" in 1980. The record did well on the charts and it went on to earn platinum certification. They released "High 'n' Dry" a year later and it did even better, earning double platinum certification in the United States.

It was "Pyromania" in the year 1983 that put them among the greats. The record was certified Diamond in the US and added to its legacy by going seven times platinum in neighboring Canada. Def Leppard have just kept on going to new heights ever since.

The Legacy

When their album "Hysteria" went diamond as well, it made Def Leppard one of only five rock bands of all time to have two Diamond albums to their credit. They have also won two American Music Awards and one Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award. VH1 put them on the thirty first spot on its list of " 100 Artists of Hard Rock."
