About Dead and Company
Dead and Company is a reformation of the American rock band, Grateful Dead that came into existence in 1965, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Founding members included Bob Weir on backing vocals and guitar, Jerry Garcia as the lead vocalist, Phil Lesh on bass, Bill Kreutzmann as the drummer and Ron McKernan playing keyboards. The Grateful Dead rose to fame due to its improvisational music that presented a cross between space rock, psychedelia and reggae, jazz, country and rock music.
Grateful Dead’s Career
Up till the band’s retirement in 1995, Grateful Dead worked with record label giants, Arista, Rhino and Warner Bros. to release 28 charting singles, 5 platinum certified studio albums (13 in total), 2 platinum selling compilation records (7 in total) and 10 live albums. With over 35 million copies sold worldwide (as of 2014), Grateful Dead was honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. The band also made its way to the 57th place on Rolling Stone’s ‘100 Greatest Artists of All Time’ list.
