From the extracts of The Western Spy, a newspaper of that time, a few early performances of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra can be recalled, such as the memorial held for George Washington in which a number of martial airs were played. Later on several performances where music of Haydn and Gluck were played were recorded as well. Currently, apart from the symphony orchestra concerts, the company also arranges "pop" concerts for the locals, which go under the name of Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. The symphony orchestra is also the resident of Cincinnati Opera and Cincinnati May Festival, both of which are among the most prominent events of the state of Ohio.

Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s venue of primary performances is Music Hall. The venue was constructed in 1878, and is currently the premier venue for Cincinnati’s classical performances. The building was designed in a way that it accommodated two kinds of activities; industrial exhibitions and musical events. It stands opposite to Washington Park on Elm Street. Since the hall was constructed over pauper’s cemetery, it is considered as one of the most haunted places of America, giving it a more intriguing reputation. It was also labeled as "National Historic Landmark" in 1975, by the US Department of the Interior.

Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra grew with the rise of the 19th Century. A number of professional German singers migrated to the area and settled down, providing their skills to the orchestra. A number of other music promoting companies were formed as well; hence the area became rich with classical music, promoting orchestra further. The company’s very first orchestra performance led by professional musicians presented to the nation three seasons from 1857 to 1860. It was labeled as "The Philharmonic Society". The first May Festival was held in 1873.

The current music director of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra is Louis Langree, who will be arranging the latest 2013-14 season. He is an internationally known conductor who has a dynamic appearance on the podium. Apart from being the music director of one of the oldest orchestras of America, he also serves the Mostly Mozart Festival held in New York under the same designation. He has been musical director of MMF since 2002, and under his leadership some of the finest performances have been witnessed. He is also chief conductor of Camerata Salzburg.

Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra presents live shows all year around, which also include Youth concerts and other family events. Educational programs are held under the leadership of Robert Trevino and William White. The concerts held under this category include Cincinnati Opera, Youth Concert and May Festival. Cincinnati Pops’ music conductor post is currently held by John Morris Russell. This internationally renowned artist is known for his inspirational leadership abilities and his innovative ideas and programs. Under the leadership of these well known musicians, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has grown and groomed a lot over the years.
