Chrisette Michele is an American star, a singer, a songwriter and a musician who plays the piano magnificently. She has been playing live and recording music since 2006, going on to record and play with the biggest names in American music today. Though born in Central Islip, in the greater state of New York, she grew up in Patchogue and studied at the local high school. The daughter of a deacon and a choir director, she was singing and leading gospel choirs by high schools and went to the Five Towns College, graduating in vocal performance.
She then kicked off her career in music, going on to appear on songs and albums in hip hop. She was featured on the song Let Us Live, from LAX, an album by The Game. She also featured on Jay-Z’s Lost One, from the album Kingdom Come and Hip Hop Is Dead, an album by Nas, on which she appeared three times.
Michele also sang on Slow Down, a song from Ghostface Killah’s album, The Big Doe Rehab. In 2007, Chrisette Michele released her first studio album, aptly titled I Am, much to the joy of the many fans she had already accumulated. It spawned such popular singles as Love Is You, If I Have My Way, Be Ok, Your Joy and Best of Me. Its songs ranked as high as fourth on the Billboard charts, appearing on the Hot R&B, Hip Hop Songs, Hot Adult R&B Airplay and Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts.
In 2008, the artist again appeared, this time on a song from the album Rising Down, by The Roots, followed by appearing on the hit The CW sitcom, Girlfriends. She also wrote a breathtaking song, I’ve Gotta Love Jones, for Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. Later that year, she went on the Art of Love Tour, headlining with soul phenomenon Raheem DeVaughn and then played live not once but twice during the Evening of Stars: A Tribute to Patti Labelle. By then, she had begun recording music for her next album, dubbed Epiphany. The album was a massive success, critically and commercially, premiering at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
Her 2009 album sold a mind blowing eighty three thousand copies during the first week it was released. She was then featured on a song for Rick Ross’s next album, with rapper Drake. In 2010, the musician’s third album was released, selling a sensational forty three thousand copies during the first week of release. Its songs also charted high on the charts, with the album itself charting on the Billboard 200. In 2013, she released the album Better, the fourth studio album in her discography, which was a massive success for the Grammy Award winning artist. Titled Better, it was released by Motown Records and ranked high on the Billboard 200, selling over twenty seven thousand copies.
