Like all Idol finalists/contestants, Chris too had to wait a long time to finally get national recognition for his talent. Interested in music from a very young age, he engaged himself to play along local rock bands. One of his extended and productive associations were with a group called Absent Element. In 2005, the singer tried his luck while auditioning for ‘Rock star: INXS’ but in vein. Nevertheless the refusal proved rather fruitful for the artist as it led him to audition and eventually star in a much more popular and larger scaled TV singing competition, ‘The American Idol’.
During the course of the contest, Chris appeared as the likely candidate to win the season. His spectacular performance of rock band Fuel’s number ‘Hemorrhage’ made waves and rumors of Chris being hired as the band’s lead singer began circulating. The hearsay was confirmed true when the band in fact did approach the performer, following his departure as a fourth place finalist from the Idol season 5.
However he turned down the offer to launch his own career. Subsequently he signed a contract with 19 Entertainment Group and RCA Records and began working on his debut album. The work for the record was initiated by Chris. However by the time it materialized in November of 2006 it turned into more of a collective venture involving members of Chris’ signature band Daughtry, also the title of their first record. The group comprises of guitarists Brian Craddock and Josh Steely, drummer Joey Barnes and bassist Josh Paul. The album debuted high on the music charts and remained amongst the top ten for several months following its release. The popularity of the record, lead song ‘It’s not over’ in particular’ went on to surpass that of Chris’ Idol rivals.
‘Leave this Town’ is the first record that features both Chris as well as his band mates. The chemistry between the members comes forth via the collection’s varied songs, each of which contains distinctive elements reflective of the individual’s sensibilities as musicians. From the rocker ‘No Song No Surprise’ to the ballad ‘September’ to the country twanged ‘Tennessee Line’, the album embodies various flavors catering to nearly every music taste. It also comprises of Chris’ own writing credentials as well as his collaborations with renowned artists as Vince Gill.
The rock star’s latest album came ‘Break the Spell’ came out in the year 2011. The record opens with a hardcore upbeat rock song called ‘Outta my head’. The high energy number compels the listener to turn their audio systems on a high or full volume. ‘Louder than Ever’ is another catchy number that can be enjoyed while on a road trip. For country genre fans, Chris presents ‘Crawling back to you’, a composition that involves the contributions of prominent country writer Brett James. The album reveals Chris’s vocal range to fit into any style and tone as demanded by the rhythm and lyrics of a song.
The North Carolina native never ceases to stun his audiences and critics every time he takes to stage. His confident and energetic presence and performance translates perfectly in his concerts. Chris’ ability to mould himself to entertain all age groups and backgrounds transcends his popularity beyond boundaries.
