Ashley Monroe’s love for music dates back to her childhood when she took her first piano lessons at 7. Born into a family of music lovers, Monroe inherited her passion from her family and won a music talent contest in Pigeon Forge after she sang Patsy Montana’s “I Want to Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart”. The singer performed frequently at events in Pigeon Force and gradually earned recognition. Tragedy struck in the year 2000, when Monroe lost her father and the teenage singer struggled to deal with the circumstances that followed. Writing songs helped her express her grief and she finally found solace in music. The mother and daughter moved to Nashville to help Monroe take off as a professional singer.
Ashley Monroe luckily snagged a deal with Columbia Records and began recording her debut album “Satisfied” in 2006. She released the title track in 2006 followed by another single “I Don’t Want To”, with the latter making it to number 37 on the Hot Country Songs chart. The label first decided to release the complete album as soon as the singer charted a top 20 but the release never materialized and Monroe parted ways with the record label. The album was finally released on iTunes in 2009 and by then Monroe was busy collaborating on EPs with fellow artists like Trent Dabbs, Jack White, Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert.
During her ventures with industry colleagues, Monroe struck an everlasting friendship with singer Miranda Lambert who invited Monroe into her three-piece band, together with Angaleena Presley. The band called “Pistol Annies” gave Monroe the platform she required to launch a career of her own. The trio released two albums titled “Hell on Heels” and “Annie Up”, both of which received positive reviews. The single “Hush Hush” became the band’s first chart hitting single and was a great boost for Monroe’s previously low-lying career. The band proved to be Monroe’s musical breakthrough and the ambitious singer immediately signed with Warner Bros. Nashville label for her sophomore album “Like a Rose”.
The album had a variety of songs featuring Monroe’s extended repertoire, and earned widespread critical acclaim. Together with producer Vince Gill, Ashley Monroe created songs that ranged from controversial to feel-good to reflective. Giving popular singles like “You Got Me” and “Weed Instead of Roses”, the album is a testament to Monroe’s astute songwriting abilities. The singer will soon release her third album “The Blade” under the same recording label.
