The Start
Miguel was born in Gaiman, Argentina in 1956. At a young age, she developed an interest in music and decided to pursue it. Her mother was a music teacher; hence her interest in music was inevitable. At the age of 16, she moved to Buenos Aires where she enrolled in Conservatorio de Albert Williams to study music. She met her future husband, Diego Verdaguer there.
Before starting her solo career, Miguel was part of Verdaguer’s band called ‘Mediterráneo.’ Verdaguer was already an established artist at that time. It was him who helped Miguel launch her solo career. Blessed with star power and a distinctively strong voice, she soon made her mark in the pop music industry. She has 16 albums to her credit and has sold more than 40 million records all over the world.
Her musical journey
In 1979, she made her solo recording debut with ‘Papá, Cuando Regreses.’ Soon after, in 1981, she released her debut album ‘El Sonido, Vol. 1.’ The album was a commercial success, with hit tracks like ‘Mi Buen Corazón.’ Her subsequent albums ‘El Sonida, Vol. 2’ (1983), ‘El Sonido Vol. 2’ (1984) and ‘El Pecado’ (1987) were also massive hits.
She was mostly active throughout the nineties. During this time, she expanded her repertoire and experimented with a variety of music styles. She has experimented with pop music as well as traditional Mexican music. She released a number of albums during the 90s; these included ‘5 Dias,’ ‘Ámame una Vez Más,’ ‘Rompecorazones’ and ‘El Rostro del Amor.’ After 1999, her output slowed down a bit and the next album she released was six years later. She collaborated with a Mexican songwriter/singer, Anahí, for her comeback album ‘Piedra de Afilar’ (2005). In the same year, she collaborated with her husband and released the album ‘Siempre Fuimos Dos’ (2005). Later, she released ‘Dedicado a México’ and ‘Anillo de Compromiso’, both of which were massive hits.
Awards and nominations
Over the course of her musical career, she has won numerous awards and has received several nominations. She has won the prestigious Ampryt Award. She has also been nominated for the Lo Nuestro Award for the "Pop Song of the Year" category for the title song from her album ‘Ámame una Vez Más.’ She has won several other awards worldwide.
