Alton’s was born in California and spent his childhood as part of the Boy Scouts of America. Alton laughs about how he utilized this special ability to get dates with popular girls in college. After graduating from University of Georgia, Alton Brown followed his father’s footsteps and entered the media industry. He worked as a video director and cinematographer for almost a decade producing interesting music videos and films. During that period, he spent all his free time watching various cooking shows on TV which he thought were poor in content and quality.
Convinced that his passion for cooking and his already gained media experience can be combined together to create a distinct cooking show, he created Good Eats which aired on The Food Network. Before the show began, he took formal training in culinary arts at the New England Culinary Institute. Good Eats became a one-of-a-kind cooking show. It was an interesting amalgamation of science of cooking sprinkled with wisdom and wit, pop culture and history. For the next thirteen years this smart cooking show continued to entertain the audience worldwide. The show won the Peabody Award in 2006.
In early 2004, Alton Brown participated in Iron Chef America: Battle of the Masters show and put up a great performance there as well. Consequently the show rose to popularity and Brown went ahead to host the spin-off from this show The Next Iron Chef for four consecutive seasons. His creative mind was still not satisfied, as his next series was a motorcycle food adventure ride on the road. Feasting on Asphalt season 1 and 2 followed by Feasting on Waves was a mini-series in which Brown explored the road food and river-side establishment that served the travelers.
His latest culinary TV adventure is an ‘evilicious’ game show named Cutthroat Kitchen. This reality show hosted by Alton Brown and features four chefs who are given the task of creating gourmet dishes but they have an advantage of strategically playing their game to sabotage their opponents. The show has been well-received by the audience and has successfully completed three seasons. Besides his own shows, Alton has appeared as a guest and mentor in many other cooking shows and commercials as well.
Brown has authored many books related to cookery. Some of his major contributions include Alton Brown’s Gear for Your Kitchen, I’m Just Here for the Food series and Good Eats series. For his constantly entertaining and informative culinary work, Alton Brown has received a lot of acclaim. He has won the James Beard award for his excellent television hosting. His book I’m Just Here for the Food (2002) was given the ‘Best Cookbook’ in the Reference category award and his Good Eats book series became a New York Times best seller.
On his live tour this year, Alton is bringing his culinary science and quirky humor to entertain the audience.
