Folk and country music are among the most popular genres in the US. The music is easy on the ears and is enjoyed immensely by the masses. Folk and country share their roots in the story-song tradition of the southern rural communities in the US. The names that are regarded as the pioneers of folk music are Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger. Alabama is one of the most successful country bands of all time who has not only sold in excess of 75 million records around the world but has also won fifteen Academy of Country Music Awards.

Taking over the country scene

After failing to make any mark with the release of their first three studio effort, Alabama stepped in the right direction and released their first multi-platinum studio album, ‘My Home’s in Alabama’ in 1980. The record peaked at the third spot on the Top Country Albums chart and received 3.5/5 stars from AllMusic. It also gave a couple of number-one singles, Why Lady Why and Tennessee River. The band then followed it up by coming out with their fifth studio album, ‘Feels So Right’ which marked their first record to reach at the first spot on the Top Country Albums chart and went on to sell over four million copies in the States.

Alabama then went on to dominate the decade by putting out records like, ‘Mountain Music,’ ‘Roll On,’ ‘The Touch,’ ‘Just Us’ and ‘Southern Star’ all of which peaked at the first spot on the Top Country Albums chart.

Alabama has announced to embark on their latest tour to celebrate the 50^th anniversary of the group.
