The city is home to the Central Michigan University and part of its lies on the Isabella Indian Reservation. Settlers first arrive in 1855, with Native Americans relocated to what is now the Isabella Indian Reservation. In 1879, the firs ever library was founded in the city and in 1890, the Mount Pleasant Business College was founded by W.A. Jordan, what has today expanded to become the Central Michigan University. In 1928, oil was found in the city, which was then extracted, becoming part of the city's legacy.
The Chippewa River runs in between Mount Pleasant MI , surrounding which are some of the city's main hotspots. It is also home to the Mid Michigan Community College, the Mount Pleasant High School and the Sacred Heart Academy.
