Other Concerts Events in Austin

The city flourished during the nineteenth century and after a dip in growth during the Great Depression, it resumed its former glory with the construction of the University of Texas at Austin as well as the Texas State Capitol. It was a center for government and education then, and it continues to be a cultural and economic hub.

Austin is a sunny place, with cool winter months and hot summers. Snow is rare, but ice-storms come and go every few years. The airport is just five miles from the southeast of Austin, and public transportation is mainly metro buses. There are many landmarks that are worth exploring in Austin. Lady Bird Lake is a beautiful spot, and many hotels and apartment buildings overlook this reservoir. Austin also has more than fifty public swimming pools scattered throughout the city. Barton Springs Pool is a popular natural, limestone pool, located on the grounds of Zilker Park. The Texas State Capitol in itself is a sight to see.  Tours are available in many different languages, for the grounds of the Capitol, the building itself and even for the various plants and trees planted on the grounds. The Capitol’s building is symbolic of the state’s ‘bigger is better’ approach, covering twenty-two acres of grounds.

But the history is not all. Austin is as much part of this world as any place can be. At one time only music was associated with Austin probably. However today, apart from housing 250 music venues, Austin has many annual events that it is known for. Zilker Park has been holding the Austin City Limits Music Festival on its grounds annually since 2002. It’s a three-day American music festival which brings together more than a hundred acts on one platform from world over. The genres featured in the festival range from indie and rock to country and electronic. An estimated number of people who attend the festival counts up to seventy-five thousand. It’s a great way to spend the weekend with family and friends and enjoy great music. The Festival was recently voted to expand its duration and now takes place over two consecutive weekends. Live music is an integral part of Austin culture. From the moment one gets off their plane, airport terminals ring with live entertainers and their music. They play at festivals including South by Southwest and City Limits as well as the Urban Music Festival and the Fun, Fun, Fun Fest.

Other than live events, the city offers great many things. For kids, there is Hamilton Park which is a wildlife park and pool. Hippie Hollow Park offers swimming, rock climbing, kayaking, exploring and even hiking along the greenbelt.

The food that Austin has to offer is no short straw either. ‘Qui’ has recently opened up in the city, which might ring a bell with those follow cook-offs on TV. The place is owned by Paul Qui who won Top Chef Texas and so his restaurant’s food should be a priority when dropping by Texas. Then there are the famous breakfast tacos at ‘Juan in a Million’, great barbecue at ‘La Barbecue’ and grilled sweetbreads at ‘Barley Swine.’

Make a plan, take out some time and grab a few Austin tickets for you and your family to enjoy the amazing nightlife, the food and the music!
