Lewis University was established in 1923 as Holy Name Technical School in the scenic city of Romeoville, Illinois. In 1960 it went under the direct patronage of the De La Salle Christian Brothers. It is a Roman Catholic University that aims to balance liberal learning and values that are momentous in the professional world.

Lewis University offers a wide variety of subjects at the undergraduate level. More than fifteen subjects are offered for graduate study. One of the specialties of Lewis University is its Aviation program, which is also one of its oldest programs.
