Mike Stroud and Evan Mast, two guys from Washington DC, had their future as Ratatat, an electronic music band in New York City. Because of their uniqueness and innovation in music, they soon got huge recognition and praise from all over. These two guys met at Skidmore College where they decided to produce electronic music and formed a duo with the name of Cherry in 2001 and recorded a few songs. The debut album of the debut did not come out until 2004 and it was titled, Ratatat. All the tracks in the album are instrumental and have very less vocals in selective tracks. Mike Stroud plays guitar while Evan Mast is the producer and also in charge of synthesizer and bass. Their music genres include indie rock, alternative, post rock and electronic rock. Apart from making their own music, the duo is also famous for making remixes which gave them a new position in the music world. They have made remixes of the work of the artists like Bjork, television personalities, Biz Markie, the Knife and Shout out Louds. Ratatat Remixes volume 1 came out in 2004 and was much praised. Another album came out in 2006 with the title, Classics, and the next year came with the second volume of their remixes.
The band has recorded with XL Recordings, Rex Records and Audio Dregs and they have worked with many famous names of the music industry like Daft Punk, Franz Ferdinand, the Killers, Clinic, CSS, Interpol, the Faint, and Mouse of Mars, Panthers and Super Furry Animals. Ratatat performed at Guggenheim Museum, New York City, in 2006 which was the first time any band performed inside that place.
