Theatre Of The Living Arts Tickets

A theatrical venue that began on experimental basis is about to play host to its latest season of performances. The amazing facility in question is none other than Theatre of the Living Arts. For decades this wonderful arena has been home to one amazing performance after another and that trend looks well on course to continue for a long time to come yet

The Theatre of the Living Arts might have been formed in the early half of 1960s but its history goes back another three decades. A cinema from 1930s named the New Palace Theatre in Philadelphia was in need of renovation. A group of cinema fans teamed up to renovate the arena and that is when Theatre of the Living Arts was formed.

The idea was to bring creative and avant-garde cinema to the city of Philadelphia. Andre Gregory took over as its first artistic director and the festivities got underway. The theater got off to the best possible start with people turning up in thousands. Good times didnt last for too long which resulted in the theaters closure.

At the start of the next decade Al Malmfelt and his wife Brenda bought the closed facility and converted it into a cinema. Motion pictures were a big industry by now and that attracted the masses to Theatre of the Living Arts in thousands. A monumental moment arrived in the year 1976 with the debut of "The Rocky Horror Picture." Movie fans bought Theatre of the Living Arts tickets and turned it into a sensation.

The arena once again encountered financial problems and the cinema was shut down near 1980s. It was the employees of the cinema that joined hands in 1981 and incepted an organization by the name of Repertory Cinema Inc. The building of the cinema was by then being owned by Stephen Starr so the employees went to screen cult and repertory films at another place. That changed in 1982 when Starr decided to sell the building and Repertory Cinema Inc bought it from him.

The management wanted to turn Theatre of the Living Arts into one of the major players in repertory cinema. Documentaries, rock movies, art films and a variety of old Hollywood movies became a regular feature. The venue has also been home to some Broadway productions.

TLA is now owned by Live Nation, one of the premier entertainment companies in the world. That has further increased the profile if the theater and has taken it to new heights. It is primarily a music arena these days which plays host to concerts year in year out. Now that the new season of festivities is about to get underway grab your Theatre of the Living Arts tickets and make your way to this intimate arena for an unforgettable time.
