The total cost incurred on the project is estimated to be one hundred and thirty nine million dollars. At the time of its inauguration it was known as the Ice Palace. The management sold the naming rights to the St. Petersburg Times newspaper hence the Ice Palace was renamed the St Pete Times Forum. The first ice hockey match held at the stadium was played between the home side and the New York Rangers.
 
The arena holds around one hundred and fifty events a year which include, political and social events, WWE shows, concerts and ice hockey games etc which in turn makes it one of the busiest and most popular arenas in the US. The management and control of the arena has changed multiple times over the years with the Tampa Bay Sports and Entertainment LLC being the current owners. The change in ownership hasn’t changed the fact that the Tampa Bay Lightning remain the main tenants. The St Pete Times Forum has gone through a major renovation process which has cost forty million dollars which has transformed an already amazing stadium into one of the best the country has to offer.St Pete Times Forum is now called the Tampa Bay Times Forum after the news paper changed its name from St. Petersburg Times to the Tampa Bay Times but the name is all that has changed. The stadium remains one of the most famous venues for all kinds of events due to its brilliant features.
