Orpheum Theater Omaha has been serving the city with classic local and national live shows from the last eight decades. Orpheum Theater Omaha was built at the site of Creighton Theatre in 1927 to meet the rising demand for vaudeville. The site was completed in 16 months with an amount of $2 million. For the opening show at the new theater, approximately 3000 people were present.
Due to the introduction of motion pictures and it increasing popularity, Orpheum being known for the vaudeville was no longer a hot venue. The management of the venue decided to convert the place into a movie house. But the classic elegant golden setting of the theater didn't go well with the theme of being a cinema and finally the venue was closed for motion pictures in 1971. The dark clouds circled the venue for 3 years and no major activity made this place a public sensation till 1975.
