Nourse Theatre is a performing arts venue located in the very core of Francisco that was recently restored by City Arts organization after remaining closed for three decades. The historic and beautiful hall stands just two blocks from the famous Herbst Theatre, and is known for its stunning architecture, excellent acoustics and as a significant historic monument. With a present seating capacity of more than sixteen hundred, the hall was minimally renovated within a million dollars and hosts events by various art organizations. It possesses characteristic Beaux-Arts designs, regally hung chandeliers and a soaring proscenium that suggest the interiors are rather modern.

The theatre has been brought into by San Francisco’s celebrated institution of City Arts & Lectures that took on the noble project of restoring the early nineteenth century venue. The place is known some of the most exciting shows by renowned artists such as Cheryl Sandberg and Condoleeza Rice. Nourse Theatre tickets are the new hype in town among performing art fans ready to explore what the historic theatre offers.

Nourse Theatre was built in 1927 as an in-house theater for Commerce High School with a seating capacity of eighteen hundred. By the fifties when it no longer served as the host base for the school’s weekly assemblies and plays, it was shut down. It then became the best known cultural venue for high-eng performing art organizations, featuring shows by the likes of Pickle Family Circus, Allen Ginsberg and Pete Seeger. The place continued to function as San Francisco’s standard performing arts spot until the eighties, which is when the city’s Superior Court Judge Ira Brown began looking for a befitting venue for what was described by the Los Angeles Times as the most complex and enormous trial to take place in Californian history.

During that time, California did not yet have a court room that allowed a trial of such magnitude and so over two hundred thousand dollars had to be spent on converting the auditorium into a new makeshift courthouse. The ensuing trial continued for two years, following which Nourse fell to disuse. It was rather recently, when the City Arts decided to relocate and began looking for a venue where it could move after Herbst Theatre would close down for its two-year long remodeling project. It was then that the organization looked to returning to Nourse with serious consideration and bringing the place back to its glory.

Nourse Theatre was believed to be brought back to its former standing by investing as little as just a million dollars while allowing housing twice as many as City Arts previous venue did. Goldstein has been stated to intend to open the theater to man other local performing art organization such as SF Jazz and San Francisco Performances. Today, the theater stands as profoundly significant historic monument with remarkable character, showcasing the works of various cultural presenters. If you are looking to attend a promising performing art show then just grab some Nourse Theatre tickets, sit back and enjoy the cultural marvels.
