Founded in 1894, Massey Hall is today regarded as a National Historic Site of Canada. It is a performing arts theatre that is located in downtown Toronto in the sensational gardent district. For much of the life of Toronto, Massey Hall and the Eaton Auditorium were the only large concert venues in the city before the Roy Thomson Hall opened up. In 1901, the future King George V and Queen Mary, then the Duchess and Duke of Cornwall and York attended the Massey Hall alongwith then Canadian prime minister, Wilfrid Laurier. Aside from them, famous people who has appeared on the stage of Massey Hall include William Booth, Enrico Caruso, Maria Callas, Winston Churchill, Glenn Gould, George Gershwin, Dalai Lama, Luciano Pavarotti, Gordon Lightfoot, Arturo Toscanini and Oscar Peterson. Rush’s phenomenal live album, All the World’s a Stage was recorded here in 1976 and so did Neil Young in 1971. Ronnie Hawkins also held a concert in celebration of his 60th birthday which was released as the album, Let It Rock, and featured artists such as Hawkins, Jeff Healey, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Larry Gowan and The Band.
