Hampton Coliseum Tickets

For a state boasting of the size & historical significance of Virginia, it was quite a mystery as to how it lacked the basic infrastructure of a major events facility for so long. Various state teams involved in basketball & hockey led a nomadic existence, moving between numerous stadia, before the city of Hampton provided a comprehensive answer in the form of the magnificent Hampton Coliseum. Now the prestige of the structure has risen to such dizzying heights that Hampton Coliseum tickets holders not only enjoy the brilliant performances within, but also revel in the innovative design of the portable stage & the trademark exterior triangular concrete wall panels.

The state of Virginia, with its eight million-strong populace, has enjoyed a special place in American history. Birthplace of eight Presidents, its scenic landscape is shaped by the Blue Ridge Mountains & Chesapeake Bay. Hampton itself enjoys a distinctive edge as an independent city, not a subset of any county. This autonomous streak may have been a factor in the decisive & hassle-free construction that started in 1968 through Mayor Ann Kilgore. The City Council awarded the contract to Charlotte's McDevitt & Street Co. With 30 sub-contractors involved, the Hampton Coliseum saw daylight in 1970 after consuming 17,000 cubic yards of concrete, 256,000 watts of energy & over 96 speckled triangular wall panels. The Coliseum boasts of a host of top-notch facilities, including excellent acoustics & two clusters of speakers. Ten 2K Strong Xenon Super Trouper spotlights adorn the Coliseum, with a fully-equipped Daktronics scoreboard, replete with shot clock goal timers & tenths of a second time display, available for sporting events. Full Box Office & Press Box facilities are provided, & fans' comfort is ensured with a 13,800 seating capacity, on-site ATM, kitchen & police-patrolled paved parking. The novel portable stage design has caught attention, but the recently-introduced Stars Theater (using a 50' tall by 260' wide dramatic black curtain) is a winner with audiences of a more intimate performance. The annual Hampton Jazz Festival is keeping the rich silky tradition alive since its 1968 inception. Luminaries like B. B. King, Gladys Knight & Aretha Franklin have repeatedly performed at the festival. Hampton Coliseum served as home to ABA's Virginia Squires (1970-76) & AHL's Virginia Wings (1971-75) in the past. Colonial Athletics Association's men's basketball tournaments were held there from 1987-89. The Hampton Coliseum is also widely noted for its grand repertoire of famous concerts. The first-ever live cable television broadcast was at a 1981 Rolling Stones concert at the Coliseum, while Hampton Coliseum tickets holders have profited from the rich procession of quality entertainment dished out by acts like Metallica, U2, Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin & Madonna. The Hampton Coliseum has left a lasting imprint on Hampton's culture. Entertainment par excellence is a guarantee that all fans with Hampton Coliseum tickets have grown accustomed to. The upcoming Jagermeister Tour, Megadeth & Men of Soul concerts will see metal-heads flocking to the Coliseum to catch the thrill.
