Azteca was built in 1966 for the 1968 Olympic Games and the 1970 FIFA World Cup. It was a quick undertaking for the time but turned out to be an over-the-top facility; a three-tiered, cavernous place that could seat nearly 115,000 people. The architectural design for Estadio Azteca was given by Pedro Ramirez Vasquez along with Rafael Mijares and took almost four years to reach the construction stage.
